Guest::Hello.
I truly admire your home theatre setup. I recently discontinued my cable services and am venturing into the cordless world. I thought that I would be okay with Netflix, Hulu, and Sling TV, but it is just not enough.
My dad wants me to use this antenna he purchased on Amazon or the firestick. I don’t know what to do with that stuff, and I do not wish to set back the feminist movement by saying that I need a man to do it.
I would like to access Kodi on my Xbox. However, reading your tutorials is doing nothing but giving me a headache and causing me to become more and more confused.
I am not a tech person in the least bit. Could you explain what I need to do in a dumbed down version?
And how did you coordinate the lights with your commands? That is the coolest thing ever. -

Keymaster::Gibbs,
Thank you for your complements on my setup. Let me see if I can help clear the confusion and point you in the right direction.
First, the core piece to most of what you said is a Home Theater PC (preferably running Windows). Here is what I use…

With that, you can install Kodi and the Exodus add-on…
https://kinkeadtech.com/video-install-exodus-kodi-17-krypton-w-estuary-skin/
Then, you can plug your Home Theater PC into your Xbox One’s HDMI Input as if it was a cable box. That way, you can say “Xbox Watch TV” and it will show Kodi from your HTPC.Next, if you want to be able to watch broadcast live TV using your dad’s antenna, but watch it through Kodi which can act as your DVR, then follow this tutorial…

If you want to get advanced, you can integrate the Xbox One Kinect to control Kodi live TV…

The next set of to features requires that you setup your own Z-Wave home automation system using the Vera…

Once you have your Z-Wave home automation up and running with a couple devices, then here is how to make a scene in the Vera that will control your audio/video equipment (or in this case LED strip lights) using a network connected infrared transmitter…
https://kinkeadtech.com/control-ir-devices-with-z-wave/
Then, when you have the ability for a Vera scene to turn your lights on and off, then you can make it so your Xbox One tells your HTPC to trigger that Vera scene when you turn your Xbox One on and off…

Sorry for the dump of tutorials on you. I know it’s a lot of reading, but if you follow these tutorials in this order, it should help you to understand how to mimic my setup. I hope this helps!Let me know if you have any questions along the way. Good luck!
