When you search on Google, Yahoo, or Bing, do you notice that your browser appears to be redirecting somewhere else? Your browser has been hijacked. Don’t worry, there’s hope.
My Experiences with Browser Hijacking
Working as the Infrastructure Director at Gate6, a technology company and digital agency, I’ve seen this happen a lot. Coworkers or clients will end up getting their browser hijacked and their Google searching is redirecting them elsewhere. Sometimes it’s very obvious, and sometimes it’s quite subtle.
How You Caught the Redirect Virus
The most common cause of the “Google Redirect Virus” is the installation of software that has been bugged with this virus. As soon as you install the application, it also installs a bunch of other stuff, including the browser hijacker.
How You Can Avoid Browser Hijacking
My #1 tip to help avoid this virus is to be incredibly careful about each piece of software you install and where you download it from. In almost every case, the software was a reputable software, but it was not downloaded from the company’s website. Instead, it was downloaded from some other website that claimed to download the same program. It usually does contain that program, but it’s bundled with malware.
How to Get Your Computer Cleaned Up
If you’re here because you are already infected with this virus, there are some fairly cheap services out there where professionals will remote into your computer and clean up all of the viruses and malware.
I recommend this guy because he’s a pro, and he guarantees the virus will be removed completely or your money back.
I hope this helps anyone facing this nasty virus. Hopefully you will pay more attention to which websites you are downloading software from so you can avoid this in the future.
