How would you like to replace your big flat panel HDTV with a 4K Apple TV set? Well, too bad. You can’t.
Apple apparently was working on such a product over a year ago, but pulled the plug on it.
The cited reason is that the features weren’t considered compelling enough. Maybe it was a quality or production issue? Maybe they couldn’t get enough profit margin on it to make it worth while.
I personally wouldn’t buy it even if I was an Apple fan boy because I believe that a TV should just be a TV and you should keep all your video sources and software separate. That way, you can upgrade or change your preferred sources of video content without having to upgrade the firmware on your TV.
That’s why I don’t like the idea of smart TVs. I prefer to have a smart home theater PC and feeds into my smart Xbox One that feeds into my smart AV receiver that feeds into my dumb but nice looking TV.
Maybe some people at Apple felt the same way?
What do you think was the reason why they gave up on the 4K Apple TV set? Do you wish they would have kept working on it and launched it? Why? Let me know in the comments.
Executives shelved the idea of a branded ultra-high-definition TV because the features weren’t considered compelling enough, according to the Wall Street Journal.
