Hey Nathan, thanks for the response.
Yes, I’m quite sure that I was casting a web stream.  It was when I was trying ‘anything and everything’ I read off of various blogs, before I was really logging the various factors.  But I don’t download and it was before I was using a vid file to check different configuations (I don’t watch any video files yet, I got kodi only for streaming.
But:  It was def. a web stream.  I believe SALTS, but possibly could have been Genesis or maybe 1Channel.  But Salts is the one I use most most often.  I was using an external player, LocalCast if I remember correctly, possibly Allcast.  (And using that playtocore or whatever file to force-play kodi on a caster/player.
I remember that the .strm file seemed to ‘hand off’ to a video file.  I did catch glimpses of the end of the link/file.  Most showed up as .flv files and wouldn’t play.  But once I got lucky and it was an .mp4 file.  I didn’t play it very long, it either crashed or I tried some other link.  But it did play.  I remember reading something about either Chromecast or my TV only being able to play .mp4 video.  And I spent time trying to find another .mp4 stream and wasn’t having any luck, since I couldn’t see in advance the file type.  Got frustrated and moved on to other methods.
I’ll try to find some of the posts from others that are able to stream from a web stream.  But there’s usually some deeper level of config involved that’s beyond me to just ‘load and play’.
I’ll consider the download method, but I shy away from that for a couple reasons.  But this method I’m trying to figure out seems alot of trouble as well.  Although I believe it can be done with a little work (and knowledge that I don’t quite have myself.)
