You are absolutely correct.  I ran into the same issue because I would have preferred to stream Genesis or SALTS videos, but found out that it was trying to send a .stream file to the DLNA player and that player didn’t know what to do with that file.  Only Kodi knows what to do with that file when it has the proper add-on installed.
