      Hi Nathan,

I have Kodi 18.5 running on my Sony Android TV, I use it to watch Movies that are stored on my WD NAS drive.

I am connected by WiFi as I was told the TV only has a 10/100 network connection, so WiFi should be faster.

When I watch 1080p contect, all is good.

When I watch a 4K movie it runs for quite a while, then playback stops and Kodi will not respond.

If I turn the TV off and then back on, restart Kodi and pick the same film again, it restarts from the point it stopped and will play happily for a while, then we get the same thing happening again.

Any ideas what might be causing this, I thought it might be WiFi dropping out, but I ran an analyser on my phone while watching a movie and the WiFi never even blinked.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Regards,

      Paul

      Paul,

My guess is that Kodi is buffering the video into the memory (RAM) faster than it is being watched and there might not be any cap on it, so it’s filling up all the available RAM on the device so it causes it to lock up.

Take a look at this tutorial I did about Kodi’s hidden cache settings… https://kinkeadtech.com/how-to-fix-kodi-buffering-with-hidden-cache-settings/

Now, you will probably want to set yours different since you’re having the opposite problem as most people. Most people have issues because Kodi is not buffering enough to keep playback steady. But your Kodi is probably buffering too much, filling up your RAM.

Check the Settings > System Information page in Kodi while the video is playing and watch your RAM usage to see how much RAM you have available and what you should cap it at (using the setting).

      I hope this helps!

      Hi,
      Thanks for your reply.
I can’t seem to find the settings to change the cache setting on my Sony TV.
Is there a version of the Advanced Settings App that will work on Kodi 18.5?
      Regards,
      Paul

Just download a file manager app and use that to add or edit the advancedsettings.xml file.
