It’s been a while since I’ve been excited about a new Calendar app, but this one looks cool. I’ve you’ve had a chance to use Inbox by Gmail, you know how much it improved how you use Gmail. I have high hopes that this new Google Calendar app will be like the Inbox upgrade, but for your calendar.

The Problems with Calendar Apps
It really does take a lot of work to keep your schedule under control. You have to manually enter events if you think to do so, and then update it if your plans change. If your event is a meeting or conference call, you probably have to go search for an address or phone number and add then add it to your event. If you’re on your phone, you probably just try to deal with it and try to remember to do it when you get to your computer.

How Google is Making it Better
The new Google Calendar app for Android looks to help solve many of these issues by making it as easy as possible to add events by extracting things out of your Gmail (much like Google Now and Inbox do). You can basically turn an email into a calendar event with ease.
It also has smart assists that help you by giving you an auto-complete drop down with names of contacts or places as you type the name of the event. Those that are chosen get added as guests or the location of the event.
There’s even a beautiful schedule view that gives you a nice glance at your upcoming events without looking cluttered.

The new Google Calendar works on all Android 4.1+ devices. It is available now on all devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop, and others will be able to download the update in Google Play within the next few weeks. They’re also working on an iPhone version.
