Google Voice Finally Gets MMS Support! (Except w/ Verizon)

Lots of good news for Google Voice users recently!  Last month, Google finally merged Google Voice into the Google Hangouts mobile app, and now today, Google Voice finally gets MMS support “with nearly 100 different North American carriers” … except Verizon.

Since I’ve been using Google Voice from the beginning, I am quite familiar with this lacking feature and have experience the frustration many times when I only got someone’s reply to a group text (which used MMS) or when I hear, “Didn’t you get my picture message?”  Who knows how many other times, I wasn’t even aware of the missed picture or group message!

Well, Google has been promising to add this for quite some time, and today it’s finally here.  I can now receive MMS picture messages or group texts from nearly 100 mobile carriers.

However, while the list of supported carriers is quite long, Verizon Wireless is not listed.  The announcement on Google+ is now blowing up with comments from people calling out Verizon Wireless to step up and enable MMS support like all the other carriers have done.

I hope Verizon pays attention to this and decides to play nice with Google for the sake of text messaging interoperability.
