When Google released Inbox by Gmail back in October, it was great but since it was an invite-only beta, it was missing a lot of features that Gmail users would be used to. The biggest missing feature, in my opinion was not having a place to manage contacts. You would have to go back to Gmail just to manage your contacts.
Well they finally launched a brand new Google Contacts! It’s about time!
With the redesign of almost all of Google’s products and apps over the past couple years, Google has been bringing everything up to a modern, Material Design UI. It all seemed to start with Google+, then one by one, their web apps and mobile apps have been getting updates that bring them into the new design.
Meanwhile, Google Contacts has been looking older and older as all its brothers and sisters got promoted to new and fresh looks. Now that Google Contacts has been updated, it looks like a real breath of fresh air. Check it out…

Contact information is shown on a card with various info merged together. It also brings in recent Gmail conversations with that contact.

Google rebuilt their Merge Duplicates feature from the ground up to help make it more effective. It now has a really easy to use area where you can see your duplicates and merge them with one button.

Here is the merged contact in this example…

And now for the bad news. This is not yet available for Google Apps customers, but they said they are working on it.
What do you think about the new Google Contacts? Let me know in the comments what you like or don’t like.
