Microsoft Reveals Windows 10, Skipping Over 9

Everyone’s been speculating the next version of Windows to be Windows 9, or Windows One, or just Windows.  I’ve even talked about the features showing in the leaked screenshots of this next version of Windows.

But, Microsoft just threw a curve ball, dubbing the next version “Windows 10”, skipping the Windows 9 name entirely.  Their reason?  They want to think of this next release as a big jump forward.

It looks like all the features covered in my previous post have held true.  Here is a video from Microsoft introducing Windows 10 tech preview.

Another thing to note is that Microsoft is claiming that this next version is focusing on one version of Windows delivering the right experience to the right devices, claiming that Windows will be able to be installed on any device from little home appliances (Internet of Things) all the way up to large data center servers.

They obviously see the issues they had with Windows 8 and they are trying to make this next version bounce back from that.  But, is it such a large jump forward that they would arbitrarily jump from 8 to 10?  Is it really that different from Windows 8?

What do you think?  Are you going to try the Windows 10 tech preview?
