The long-awaited Mobile World Congress (MWC) has come, and we are expecting the newest mobile devices with premium features to be released this year. It is expected that there will be roughly 2 billion consumers purchasing new smartphones in 2016, as reported by eMarketer. New innovative features are set to arrive in the next wave of handsets, sparking more interest in some markets that previously had low adoption rates.
In this post, we will highlight some of the top eagerly anticipated smartphones you should expect to arrive on the market soon.
Samsung Galaxy S7
Samsung will be leading the pack this year with the arrival of their Galaxy S7 this month. The handset boasts some features that most mobile users have been waiting for since last year, such as the new iris scanning technology. The iris sensor will act as an update from the fingerprint scanning technology that was available on its last model. Texas State University reviewed its potential and found iris scanning technology to be ‘foolproof,’ as the iris is said to be harder to forge. The Galaxy S7’s will also come with the Snapdragon 820, advanced camera, pressure sensitive display and support for USB Type-C.
As one of the early contenders this year, the Galaxy S7 is set to be announced on February 21 at the MWC. Pre-orders will be available soon and units will be sent out two weeks after.
LG G5
The LG G5 is another handset that will feature the iris scanning technology. Both Samsung and LG are working on said biometric sensor to upgrade the security features of their next handsets. Apart from the security upgrade, the G5 also boasts insane specs, starting with the 4K display that makes images more “brilliant and alive”. Other features include a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 3GB RAM, IR blaster, and a metal bodywork. The company will also add NFC chipsets for mobile payments.
The LG G5 will also present their 135-degree wide angle with dual-lens configuration. It will also come with two LED flash bulbs and a laser between the two lenses to allow autofocus even on the front-facing camera.
iPhone 7
Although slated for release later this year (September), the iPhone 7 will be one of the most popular handset this year. However, it has big shoes to fill, after the successful release of its predecessors (iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus) with 13 million units sold in its first week of release. In a review by O2, the resource page mentioned the handset’s tagline: ‘The only thing that’s changed is everything,’ which explains the many upgrades on the iPhone 6s. Upgrades to its features include 3D Touch, Live Photos, A9 chipset, and the 7000 Series Aluminum material used for its casing. The iPhone 7 will come with more upgrades starting with its design, which is said to be thinner by taking out the headphone jack, possible wireless charging, dual lens camera, and upgraded A10 processor.
