      Hi there.

Im new at this so go easy on me :)

I want to protect my identity when using Kodi 18.1 on my xbox one s.

I am located in Australia which has some pretty strict laws around watching content using services like kodi.

I don’t know the exact details but I think ISP’s in Australia are required to provide the government with details of people who are watching streamed content so they can be prosecuted.

      How do I protect myself?

My router has L2TP capability which doesnt seem to be supported by vpn services any more. Most are saying that they only support openvpn.

Some have suggested using a DNS service but i cant get any confirmation if this will hide my identity or if it just allow me to access content from other regions.

I really don’t want to have to buy a new router if i can help it.

My current router is a HG659

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hi, Hamish. I always go easy on people. I’m here to help.

I would not feel safe in that environment with just a DNS service. You need a VPN.

The good news is that you don’t need a new router to get a VPN. All the good VPNs out there these days have apps for just about every platform… Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, etc. You just need to sign up for VPN service, install the app, and login. Then you can click the “Connect” button and then that device is protected. You can install it on several devices under the same account.

If you’re looking for a recommendation, I always recommend IPVanish VPN. https://kinkeadtech.com/ipvanish
